about the founder
Krystal Brown
Founder, beingkind
I was born in Michigan and raised in a deeply religious household—a place where I learned early on how to serve others, but not always how to care for myself. I grew up timid, often afraid to express my true self, quietly navigating trauma while masking it with perfectionism and faith. Creativity became my secret language of survival. It eventually led me to Pratt Institute in New York, where I earned a Bachelor's degree in Communications Design, majoring in Graphic Design. That education sparked more than a career—it sparked a journey back to myself.
From 2002 to 2019, I lived and worked in Brooklyn, NY, where the city’s grit and soul cracked me open in the best way. I worked with a black-run non-profit organization, Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, where I was able to absorb a vast amount of culture, community, and unforgettable experiences. From that organization, I was connected to a talented event production company, Dwight Johnson Design, which led to freelance gigs with celebrities and a wealth of networking experiences. In Brooklyn, I didn’t just build a portfolio—I built chosen family. But behind the bright lights and busy days, I was quietly wrestling with depression, anxiety, and addiction. I reached a point where I had to choose: break down or break open. I chose the latter—and slowly began rebuilding a life rooted in healing, honesty, and community.
I believe that self-care is more than bubble baths and journaling—it's about accountability, connection, and showing up for yourself and others. Safe spaces saved me, and I’m passionate about creating them for others. Working in a hospital emergency room has only deepened that calling—to be present in life’s messiest, most human moments. Whether I’m talking someone through a panic attack in the ER, or offering a gentle reminder through beingkind content, I hold space with the kind of care I once needed.
I’m an adventurer at heart, always chasing new experiences—from bungee jumping and kayaking to playing my djembe or cooking with spices I can barely pronounce. Music, documentaries, and creative expression keep me grounded. I’ve traveled the world, but the real journey has been inward—learning how to come home to myself again and again.
beingkind is my offering to the world. It’s a reflection of the messy, meaningful healing I’ve done and continue to do. It’s for anyone who’s ever felt like too much or not enough. It’s a reminder that you’re not alone, and that wellness doesn’t have to be a solo mission. Healing happens here—together.
